What Can You Eat on a Paleo Diet?

Colorful Fruits

The paleo diet is fast becoming the popular choice for people who want to lose weight and maintain their shape. The basis of this meal plan is the food presumably available to humans in the Paleolithic Age. A typical diet includes meat, roots, fruits, vegetables and nuts just to name a few. It also excludes certain types of food such as sugar, processed oils, alcohol, salt, dairy products and grains.

When you want to follow a paleo meal plan, here is some of the food that should be part of it.

Eggs and Meat

Meat, including seafood, and eggs are the most important in your paleo diet. However, you can’t just eat any meat; ideally, you must eat from animals that follow an organic diet. Chickens, for example, must eat grain, insects and any other greens. When shopping for meat products, choose low-fat alternatives, if you find any.

Nuts and Seeds

While they provide a sufficient amount protein, you shouldn’t consume too much of it. If you want to lose weight, stick to four ounces daily. However, keep in mind that peanuts should not be in your meal plan. If you are looking for alternatives to dairy, go for unsweetened coconut milk and almond milk.

Vegetables

You may include vegetables in your diet but stay away from legumes such as peas and beans. Some nutritionists cite that if there’s something you can’t eat as raw as possible, avoid it.

Fruits

Fruits of all kinds are great for you but limit the consumption of juices and dried fruit products. Eat them as raw as possible and with little to no processing.

The paleo diet delivers the results you want, especially if you want to lose weight quickly. However, you must be mindful of the different types of food available to you because each food in your meal plan must complement one another.
