Woman cleaning the counter in the kitchenSummertime means fun to almost every living thing, except the ones who are tasked to clean the house. This is the season where the dust is at its worst due to the dry and hot season. Your schedule is already packed between work and the kids’ summer activities that it makes cleaning a lot more challenging than usual.

Having the right tools and knowing the right cleaning chemicals suppliers can do wonders when cleaning the house, but not everyone has access to these resources. Well, don’t worry. We have prepared a few simple cleaning hacks that you might find helpful this summer:

10 Simple Tips for Summer Cleaning

1. Lemon leftovers as cleaning agents.

Lemon is not only a healthy and delicious ingredient, but it also makes for a great cleaning agent. You can rub the lemon leftover on steel fixtures and appliances and finish the chore off by wiping over the areas with a clean piece of cloth.

2. Use alcohol to get rid of chair stains.

Microfiber upholstery on chairs makes it a pain to clean stains. Just spray alcohol on the stain and wipe off with a sponge. If you don’t like alcohol fading your upholstery, mix one-part dishwashing liquid with two parts of hydrogen peroxide. Spray and rub the surface. Let it stand for a few minutes then wash it off.

3. Use baking soda to deodorize your trash.

Sprinkling baking soda at the bottom of your trash can reduce the stinky smell. If you’re using trash bags, line the bottom first with old newspapers. These will help absorb the smell and prevent leaks from taking place.

4. Mayonnaise versus water rings.

Giving out coasters to use gives you no guarantee that your children or guests will unintentionally place their glasses directly on your wooden coffee table which will leave watermarks. Take a small amount of full-fat mayonnaise and apply it to the water ring. Let it sit for an hour then gently wipe it off.

5. Socks to clean blinds.

A fast way of getting rid of dust from blinds is by using a pair of socks to clean them. Mix equal parts of water and vinegar in a bowl. Take one sock and dip it in the solution and put it on one hand. Wipe off the dust and grime from your blinds using that sock. Wipe over your trail to dry the blinds off with the other sock placed on your hand.

6. Citrus-based polish reduces oily marks on appliances.

If the sight of oil or sweat marks on appliances ticks you off, whether they’re from other people or yours, a simple solution is wiping them down with citrus-based furniture polish. It leaves a thin layer of oil on the surface which repels marks and makes it easy to wipe off.

7. Essential oils to keep the bathroom smelling fresh.

Add a few drops of essential oils to your toilet roll’s inner core. Each time the roll is used, it releases a pleasant smell that permeates throughout the bathroom.

8. Rinse off your swimsuit with water.

Extend your swimsuit’s life by rinsing it with tap water after each use. Giving it a quick wash will help remove any saltwater, chlorine, skin oil, and sunscreen which all can make your suit look dull and old. Remove as much sunscreen as you can as it has certain chemicals that do not react well with detergents and will leave unpleasant stains on it.

9. Mold and mildew-free washing machines.

The summer’s high humidity will make washing machines a bit smelly because of mold and mildew. Get rid of the mold and mildew, and ultimately the smell, when you run an empty load with hot water and detergent. Leave the door open so it dries properly.

10. Vinegar to the rescue.

Plastic and rubber toys and inflatables will see plenty of pool time this summer. Kids just love playing with their toys in the water. To get rid of the chlorine and other toxic chemicals from the pool, wipe the toys off with a paper towel dipped in vinegar.

You can still enjoy the summer and take care of things at home with these simple hacks. They’re easy to do and won’t consume too much of your time which frees up your schedule to go to your son’s football game or your daughter’s ballet classes.
