Let’s face it, all bodies change with age. Skin begins to sag, hair becomes thinner, and facial lines appear out of nowhere. Thankfully, recent technology has introduced next-generation remedies and procedures that can help you look and feel youthful at any age. Here’s a look at 3 of the latest anti-aging treatments that have been dominating the beauty industry.
Vampire facial
Also known as blood facial or platelet-rich plasma (PRP) facial, this 3-step procedure stimulates collagen and elastin fibers to promote cell turnover and brighter complexion. It tightens sagging skin, eliminates deep creases, and reduces acne scars.
A vampire facial involves extracting a sample of your blood, taking out the plasma, and then re-injecting it back into your face using a syringe or microneedling. Apart from being a skincare weapon, PRP is also being tested to treat hair loss and speed up wound healing.
According to the American Academy of Dermatology, PRP patients may experience a bit of pain, bruising, and swelling for a few days. But overall, vampire facials appear to be safe for all skin types, since technically it is impossible to be allergic to one own’s blood. Although dermatologists don’t recommend it for patients with Hepatitis C, HIV, blood cancer, and other conditions that affect the quality of your platelets.
Lip fillers
Dermal fillers can add more volume to help plump the lips and give a more youthful appearance. ;
Today’s most popular form of lip filler is made of Hyaluronic Acid (or HA), a naturally occurring substance that’s already found in your skin. HA fillers are soft and gel-like, keeping your lips plump and hydrated. They produce results that usually last 6 to 12 months or until your body naturally absorbs the HA back. Apart from the lips, HA fillers can also smoothen wrinkles and the vertical lines at the side of your mouth.
During the procedure, the doctor will use a needle to inject small amounts of anesthetic on the inside of your mouth to numb the top and bottom lips. Once your lips are sufficiently numb, the filler will be injected directly into your lips.
Swelling and some bruising around the lips are common side effects although these would just last about a week. Apart from that, fillers are generally safe as long as they are done by board-certified plastic surgeons.
Stem cell treatment for hair loss
Stem cells have the power to heal and repair tissues. Adipose tissue, the layer of excess fat below the skin, are excellent sources of stem cells.
During stem cell therapy, small amounts of adipose is extracted using cannulas that are inserted in the body through incisions. The harvested stem cells are spun through a centrifuge which purifies the sample. Once purified, your stem cells are merged with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and the mixture is injected into your scalp.
Dr. Gillian Ellis from Dew AntiAging & MedSpa says that stem cell therapy is better suited for patients who still have hair on their scalp. The combination of PRP and stem cells have regenerative properties that can promote hair growth, ensure deep hydration, and strengthen weakened roots.
Despite the recent influx of anti-aging remedies, remember that the best ones are only performed in a licensed dermatologist’s office. After all, the goal of anti-aging is to help you stay fresh, healthy, and beautiful in the safest way possible.
